The Solano
Orderly Growth committee is a political action committee (PAC) which
acts as
a 'watchdog' for local land use policy. We are registered with the
California Secretary of State. Our members come from all around the county. We are scientists, lawyers, accountants, city planners, business people, and former elected officials. We love Solano County and want to see wise growth that benefits all people and protects our quality of life. Bob Berman, from Benicia, is our President. Mike Zeiss, from Suisun, is our Treasurer. Duane Kromm, from Fairfield, is our Assistant Treasurer. Marilyn Farley, from Fairfield, is our Secretary. We are not anti-growth. The Orderly Growth committee advocates for city-centered growth, focused on infill development to grow up rather than out. |

a message from
our Committee Chair Solano Orderly
Growth has been successful in directing growth to our cities. We've
supported successful urban growth boundary measures. Today Benicia
and Vacaville have urban growth boundaries. The boundaries prohibit
these cities from enlarging their city limits without a vote of the
people. Nevertheless, Solano County has grown faster than the state
of California and the SF Bay Area, in terms of the percent of
housing units built over the past 30 years. We are not "no
growth"--we are for properly managed growth.
We supported
Solano County's Urban Growth Initiative which requires a vote of the
people before any land designated for agriculture or open space can be converted to
urban uses. |

 our history
A group of local citizens came together in 1984 to fight a proposed new town in a prime agricultural area of Solano County. Three of the initial organizers were John Scott Forster, Craig McNamara, and Al Medvetz. Enough signatures were collected to put an initiative on the County ballot to block such sprawl developments. The measure passed, and notion of orderly, city-centered growth became the law. Subsequent ballot measures also passed, reaffirming the desire of voters to prevent sprawl in Solano County. Today our county General Plan has incorporated the Orderly Growth principles of keeping urban growth within cities, using city separators to buffer urban and rural uses, and protecting agriculture's rights to farm.  After more than 40 years, the fight is still ongoing. Now we face a billionaire-backed scheme to subvert the will of the people of Solano County, but we will continue to use every means we have to preserve and protect the way of life voters have chosen. |
