The Solano Orderly Growth committee is a political action committee (PAC), and we engage in political action! What does that mean? We continually monitor land use policies and planning in the cities and county. We read through documents, attend and speak at meetings, talk to electeds and staff, write articles and letters to the editor, and network to stay informed and to keep local citizens informed. When appropriate, we participate in protests and rallies.

Other actions include:
advocating for the renewal of the county's Orderly Growth Initiative
endorsing candidates for local offices (County Board of Supervisors and city councils in our 7 cities) and financially contributing to their campaigns
partnering with other organizations including the Solano Together coalition
financially contributing to local environmental organizations

Under some circumstances, we engage in litigation. For example, in 2015, Solano Orderly Growth sued Recology over its failure to mitigate local impacts of its 15-year contract with San Francisco to bring waste to Recology's Hay Road Landfill. The amount of waste contracted for would bring about 50 large trucks per day across Solano County to and from the landfill. We contended that little or no effort had been made to assess the impacts to local air quality, roadways, etc.

We reached a settlement in the spring of 2016. Under this settlement, Recology will pay the committee each year of the contract and the funds will be used to mitigate harmful effects of accepting San Francisco's waste.

In turn, Orderly Growth disburses 100% of the funds to non-profits to carry out the environmental mitigation work. These organizations currently include the Greenbelt Alliance, Solano Land Trust, and the Solano Resource Conservation District..
